Summary
Item Site Replacements in StockIQ are a way to map an old item to a new item. Common scenarios for this include:
- A new revision to an existing part
- Moving an item from one site to another
- Wanting to copy history from a product you're introducing for generating a new forecast
To enter a new record, click the "+" icon in the grid.
Column Description
- Replaced Item And Site - this is the item code and site code for the old item that is reaching end of life or being replaced.
- Replacing Item and Site - this is the new item code and site code into which demand and other information should be copied.
- Multiplier - This is normally 1.0. However, if your unit-of-measure has changed between the old SKU and the new, then you must put in a multiplier so the quantities are semantically the same. Ask yourself the question "how many of <old part> does it take to make one unit of <new part>"? So, if the old item is a pack of 6, and the new item is a pack of 12, your multiplier would be 2.0.
- Copy Forecast? - Determines whether historical and current forecast is copied into the new item. This is generally only important when both old and new item are manually forecasted, otherwise the auto-forecast for the new, replacing item will overwrite any values copied from the old, replaced item.
- Copy Inventory - Specifies whether on-hand and on-order quantities for the replaced item should be mapped forward to the new item and site. This applies when the old item is functionally equivalent to the new item and can be sold-through.
- Normally you will set this to "true." When true, on-hand quantity from the replaced item will be added in to onhand quantity of the new item, and will show with two asterisks (**) next to the on-hand, to indicate that this summing is occurring.
- If the old item is not a valid substitute for the new one and/or will still be sold alongside for a short while, then you would set this to false, so the old item's inventory is not included in the new item's on hand, on order, on-demand etc.
When you are done, click the save link, and your record will be saved.
NOTE: Replacements take effect after a refresh of StockIQ, not immediately.
NOTE: When you set the "CopyInventory" setting to true, on-hand from the old item will appear as on-hand for the new item. Two asterisks (**) are shown by the item to indicate that inventory is being mapped over.
Entering overrides has the following effects in StockIQ:
- Demand History from the replaced item is copied into the new item. This allows generation of sensible auto-forecasts within Forecast Manager, so the new item can be stocked and replenished appropriately.
- If CopyInventory is set to true, then on-hand quantity for the old item is mapped/copied into the new item, so the new item's on hand will show the sum of OLD + NEW.
- This is true for On-Order and On-Demand as well.
- The old item is marked as "Replaced" and will not be suggested for re-ordering
Divergent Replacements
Under normal circumstances, StockIQ does not allow divergent replacements, e.g. the case where:
- A replaced by B
- A replaced by C
However, this can be enabled in conditions where necessary, such as where what is previously 1 SKU (say, a dining set) is split into a separate "chairs" and "table" SKUs. Check the Global Replacement Settings screen to configure this.
