Summary
The Global Unusual Sales Settings screen controls how StockIQ detects unusual sales, and if/when they are applied as events automatically to help increase your forecast accuracy
It is accessible by clicking on Admin --> System Configuration --> Global Unusual Sales Settings
These control some of the hyperparameters used by the AI/ML model that detects unusual sales in your demand history.
Unusual Sales Settings
Enabling the checkboxes for each of the following levels controls how StockIQ detects unusual sales. When multiple levels are selected, a sale will need to surpass the Outlier Score Threshold at all of the levels selected to be considered unusual. You can choose which checks you want enabled, and if you you want all of those checks to be true, or just any/one of them before we alert you to an unusual sale
Check for unusual sales by item - Unusual sales will be detected at the item level
Check for unusual sales by item and site - Unusual sales will be detected at the item-site level
Check for unusual sales by item and customer - Unusual sales will be detected at the item-customer level
Checks Mode- Allows you to select if ANY of your enabled checks is sufficient to raise an unusual sale, or if ALL of your enabled checks must all be true for the sale to be considered an unusual sale
Min Jump (Units)- Sets a minimum unit increase a sale must exceed before it can be flagged as unusual. Sales that don't clear this floor above the typical quantity are never flagged, no matter how statistically extreme they appear
Typical Order Qty Multiplier- Sets a multiple of an item's typical order quantity. If a sale's quantity is at or
below this multiple, it will not be flagged as unusual, even if it is statistically extreme. This keeps normal-sized large orders from being flagged just because they're rare.
Enable level shift detection- When enabled, StockIQ watches for a permanent shift in an item's baseline sales level (for example, after gaining a new customer or losing one). When a shift is detected, sales before and after the shift are each compared against their own new baseline instead of the item's full sales history — so a step up (or down) in normal demand won't get mistaken for a string of unusual sales.
Only flag outliers with significant volume impact- When enabled, this adds an extra requirement on top of the Outlier Score Threshold: a sale must also represent a meaningful share of total volume during a window of time around it to be flagged. This prevents very low-volume items from being flagged just because one sale looks large relative to that item's normally tiny volume.
Volume Impact Window (Days)- Sets the number of days before and after a sale that StockIQ looks at to calculate that sale's share of total volume, when Only flag outliers with significant volume impact is enabled.
Volume Impact Min %- Sets the minimum percentage of total volume (within the Volume Impact Window) that a sale must represent in order to be flagged as unusual, when Only flag outliers with significant volume impact is enabled. Sales below this share are never flagged, regardless of their outlier score.
Outlier Thresholds
The Outlier Threshold Score is created using a proprietary machine learning algorithm that considers standard deviation among other variables. If multiple levels are selected, you can select the threshold that makes the most sense at each level.
Item Outlier Score Threshold - This is the outlier threshold before a sale is marked as unusual for a specific item
Item-Site Outlier Score Threshold - This is the outlier threshold before a sale is marked as unusual for a specific item-site
Item-Customer Outlier Score Threshold - This is the outlier threshold before a sale is marked as unusual for a specific item-customer
Scope
If selected, this checkbox will flag all lines on a sales order as unusual if any single one line is detected to be unusual. Please note that this will drastically increase the number of unusual sales (and auto-created events) you see, since whole orders are flagged instead of individual lines.
Auto-Event Creation From Outliers
Enable Auto-Create of events for unusual sales - If this is enabled, an event will automatically be created for sales that surpass the following thresholds
Item Outlier Score Threshold - If Auto-Create Events is enabled, this is the item outlier threshold before an event is created for an unusual sale
Item-Site Outlier Score Threshold - If Auto-Create Events is enabled, this is the item-site outlier threshold before an event is created for an unusual sale
Item-Customer Outlier Score Threshold - If Auto-Create Events is enabled, this is the item-customer outlier threshold before an event is created for an unusual sale
