Summary
Edison answers your questions by calling tools: small, focused functions that read your StockIQ data or, with your confirmation, change it. This article lists every tool Edison has today, grouped by what you would ask about, so you can see what Edison can do and what it cannot.
You never pick a tool yourself. Ask in plain language on the Edison screen, and Edison chooses the tools and fills in the filters for you. For example questions to start from, see Edison Prompt Recommendations.
NOTE: Edison sees the same data and has the same permissions you do. A tool that needs a permission you do not have (for example View Executive Summary or Edit Forecasts) is refused, and Edison tells you which permission is missing.
TIP: Ask Edison "What can you help me with?" for a short summary of its abilities, or "What do I need to see this?" when an answer is refused.
How Edison Changes Data
Tools marked (changes data) below save something in StockIQ or send something on your behalf. Everything else only reads.
- Preview first- Before Edison places an order, saves a forecast, imports a file or changes a setting or override, it shows you what it is about to do and waits for you to confirm.
- Reason required- Changes to settings ask you for a reason, which is written to the audit trail.
- Your name on it- A change Edison makes is recorded under your name, the same as a change you make on the screen yourself.
IMPORTANT: An order Edison places is sent to your ERP like any other order placed in StockIQ. Check the preview before you confirm.
Daily Focus and Alerts
- Focus Today- Your prioritized daily list: projected stockouts, late purchase orders, projected excess, under- and over-forecast risks, expiring inventory and at-risk sales orders, each with a count, the dollars at stake and the worst items.
- Alerts- The alerts StockIQ is raising, narrowed by alert type, category, priority, state, item, site, supplier or buyer.
- Data Refresh Status- Whether a data refresh is running now, when the last Full and Partial refreshes ran and how they ended, and whether you may start one.
- Import Quality- What went wrong loading your data overnight, ranked by how much data each problem affects.

For Outside AI Assistants (MCP)
The same tools are available to an outside AI assistant connected with an MCP token, except the ones that work on your Edison conversation (attachments, emailing another user and emailing a customer). For the technical names and parameters of every tool, see the StockIQ MCP Tool Reference.
NOTE: This list reflects the current release. If Edison mentions a tool not listed here, your instance may be on a newer release.
