Summary
The Edit Forecasts dialog is a screen that allows you to quickly make some broad adjustments to your forecasts.
Steps/Process
It is accessible from Forecast Manager by clicking the Edit menu and selecting "Edit Forecasts..."
There are four main things to input in this screen to make a change, plus the 5th input of setting your time range for which those changes will be applied:
-
Copy From Series Type - This is a select box allowing you to select what type of series you want to copy from. Most of the time you will want to copy from your existing operational forecast, so your changes are relative to your current forecast. However, you can select:
- Forecast Series - Copy data from another forecast series, such as a sales or budget forecast. Most of the time you will copy from your existing operational forecast.
- Historical Demand - Copy from previous years of demand
- Statistical Model - Specifies that you want to make a change based on your current stat model.
-
Which Series? - Allows you to specify which series to copy from.
- Copy from Forecast - allows you to select which forecast you're copying from, if you selected "Forecast Series" in the first box. This will almost always be your operational forecast.
- Copy from Actuals - allows you to select which demand series to copy from. This will almost always be your independent demand. When you select this, you're given an additional option of if you want to copy from previous year, or two years ago.
- Copy Into - allows you to specify which series you are copying into. You can select different forecast series, but as with the other boxes, this will almost always be your operational forecast.
-
Change By % - Allows you to specify the percentage change that you want to apply, e.g. a 25% increase to your current forecast, or a -50% from your statistical model, etc.
- TIP: IF you don't like the pre-provided options, you can specifically type in the percentage change you want.
Once you have made your selections, you can click the "Preview" button to get a preview of your changes.
Setting Date Range
In addition to the four selections you make above, you can also change the range of changes that are made. By default, the wizard will make changes to the next 12 months of your forecast.
You can change the range of changes made by clicking and dragging on the vertical bars drawn on the chart. Your adjustments will then be limited to only that range.
When you are done, click "Apply" and your changes will be copied back to the Forecast Manager
Troubleshooting
IMPORTANT: The changes shown in forecast manager are not committed until you click the "Save Forecast" button back in the main Forecast Manager screen.
