Definition
A hub/spoke relationship refers to the structure between warehouses where product at a given warehouse is sourced from existing supply at another warehouse rather than ordered directly from the supplier. The source warehouse is referred to as the "hub" while the destination warehouse is referred to as the "spoke".
Within StockIQ, it is possible for one hub to have many spokes. For example, multiple west coast warehouses may be supplied with product from a main location in California while multiple east coast warehouses may be supplied from a main location in New York.
It is also possible to have multiple hubs for a single spoke. For example, a warehouse in Colorado may be supplied product from a main warehouse in California or a main warehouse in Texas depending on inventory levels or other business rules
The BoM Visualization in the Inventory Snapshot is a great way to visually see the flow of supply from the hub to the spoke
While the spoke itself will mainly show Independent Demand and Independent Forecast in Forecast Manager (unless the selected item is also part of a BoM), the parent will show Dependent Demand and Dependent Forecast to represent the needs of the associated spoke.
Note: it is possible for a hub to show both Independent and Dependent Demand/Forecast if the hub itself can also fulfill customer sales orders.
When more supply is needed at the spoke, whether it be to fulfill firm customer demand or to maintain safety stock, dependent demand will automatically be generated by StockIQ at the hub to ensure product is being suggested for transfer to the spoke
Note: the dates of the dependent demands and dependent forecasts will be offset by the shipping LT from the hub to the spoke. For example, if it takes 7 days to ship product from California to Colorado, Dependent Demand at California will show as 7 days earlier than the associated Independent Demand in Colorado
When ordering product into the spoke from a hub warehouse in Place Orders, you may filter on the Supplier Type "Warehouse" in Step 1 of Place Orders.
